April 5, 2015Stages of album developmentRight! Riffing on this concept some more: what are the stages of development that I would have to cover? Seems to me there are a bunch of ways songs get made ... and they all involve collaboration - even among the big solo stars. ESPECIALLY among the big solo stars!! So, Stage 1: first draft of the "completed song". Easy and I can do it at home with a video camera and an iPhone ... Stage 2: Collaborate with people. Other songwriters? Other musicians? Not sure ... prolly both. Stage 3: Get a band. I was reading an article a while back about how Aerosmith bring idea to band rehearsals and let the people pick away at them and find their own space in the arrangement. That's essential. That's about it. Three stages ... covers the development basics ... allows for improved songwriting ... feedback in the arangment process, feedback from early performances ... all of that ... Still don't know how I'm going to do this, tho ... Posted by Hughie at 2:45 PM | Comments

April 1, 2015Multi-album project - how?OK, so I got a lofty ambition and launched into a crazy idea and now I have no idea how I'm going to do this. It's just sunk in to me how much work is going to be involved in making four albums and I am acutely aware of my own limitations and biases. It would be far better to involve other people in the project and ... to be honest, I think that would make for a better outcome anyways. I have never felt comfortable coming up with all the ideas myself - I've always worked best in collaboration. Trouble is, if I get other people to play on this thing - like put the GBs back together - how could I pay them? I can't afford to this myself atm, and have no cash to pay upfront. Could offer a stadard Hugemusic publishing split (would do that anyways) but I'm not comfortable doing that only ... feel strongly that musos should get paid for their work. Will look at some grant funding and get back to you ... Posted by Hughie at 5:35 PM | Comments
