April 5, 2015Stages of album developmentRight! Riffing on this concept some more: what are the stages of development that I would have to cover? Seems to me there are a bunch of ways songs get made ... and they all involve collaboration - even among the big solo stars. ESPECIALLY among the big solo stars!! So, Stage 1: first draft of the "completed song". Easy and I can do it at home with a video camera and an iPhone ... Stage 2: Collaborate with people. Other songwriters? Other musicians? Not sure ... prolly both. Stage 3: Get a band. I was reading an article a while back about how Aerosmith bring idea to band rehearsals and let the people pick away at them and find their own space in the arrangement. That's essential. That's about it. Three stages ... covers the development basics ... allows for improved songwriting ... feedback in the arangment process, feedback from early performances ... all of that ...
