June 6, 2010Never a truer word spoken ...Just read this rant from Street Carnage, which points out the brutal reality of playing in bands and advises people not to. Can't say I disagree, ironically. Life on the road can be boring, but it's also an opportunity to meet new people and experience different things - is your cup half full or half empty? And, of course, the highs are VERY high! And, of course, this is still the old paradigm. In this age, bands are expected to meet the people and hang with their fans, so you do get to enjoy life. But I'm not interested in touring much any more. I love the idea of getting out on the road for short trips (or long trips if they're lucrative) but the idea of endless touring to small venues of few people doesn't interest me. I'd rather play less shows locally and record and release internationally ... there's so much more to be enjoyed and expressed like that as far as I'm concerned. Much more fun to keep the local community of musos kicking along and make the most of that project ... find more Genre Benders and make some great music with them ....
